Arginine metabolism in uricotelic species - doi: 10.4025/actascianimsci.v32i4.10990 Animal Sciences
Fernandes, Jovanir Inês Müller; Universidade Federal do Paraná; Murakami, Alice Eiko; UEM.
Due to the lack of a complete urea cycle, uricotelic species, such as broilers, are not able to synthesize de novo arginine (Arg), thus depending exclusively on dietary Arg. High levels of dietary lysine (Lys) increase the demand for Arg because of the antagonistic relationship between these amino acids. The Arg-Lys antagonism promotes an expressive increase in the renal Arg activity and consequently induces the degradation of Arg and the decrease in the activity of glycine amidinotransferase, an enzyme that uses Arg in the synthesis of muscle creatin. Arg is considered an important modulator of immunological and physiological processes. The degradation of Arg produces ornithine, a precursor of polyamines that are key to cell division, DNA synthesis, and...

Effects of Guanidionoacetic Acid and Arginine Supplementation to Vegetable Diets Fed to Broiler Chickens Subjected to Heat Stress before Slaughter Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Esser,AFG; Gonçalves,DRM; Rorig,A; Cristo,AB; Perini,R; Fernandes,JIM.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the supplementation of guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) and L-arginine (L-Arg) as creatine precursors to vegetable diets on the carcass yield and meat quality of broilers subjected to two days of heat stress before slaughter. A total of 1260 broiler chicks were distributed according to a completely randomized design into four treatments with nine replicates of 35 birds each. The treatments consisted of: T1 - vegetable diet based on corn and soybean meal (control diet); T2 - control diet with the inclusion of meat meal (3%); T3 - control diet supplemented with GAA (0.08%); and T4 - control diet supplemented with L-Arg (0.8%). The birds were submitted to heat stress for two days before slaughter (from 42 to 44...

Long-term creatine supplementation improves the aerobic capacity of horses Ciência Rural
Ferraz,Guilherme de Camargo; Teixeira-Neto,Antônio Raphael; D’Angelis,Flora Helena de Freitas; Lacerda-Neto,José Corrêa de; Queiroz-Neto,Antonio de.
The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of long-term oral supplementation of creatine on the physiological responses to aerobic training. Twelve purebred Arabian horses were submitted to aerobic training for 90 days, with and without creatine supplementation which consisted of the daily administration of 75g of creatine monohydrate mixed into the ration for 90 days of training. Physical conditioning was conducted on a high performance treadmill and training intensity was stipulated by calculating the V4 (velocity at which blood lactate reaches 4mmol L-1) determined monthly for each animal. The individual intensity of physical force at 80% of aerobic threshold was established. An incremental exercise test was used to set the individual...
